Mekedonia Homes: A Sanctuary of the Poor, the Sick, and the Weak.
Biniam Belete
Meet the Founder of Mekedonia Homes
In 2011, Biniam Belete established the Mekedonia Home in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. With a compassionate heart, Biniam began by rescuing homeless individuals from the streets and offering them food and shelter in his parents' home. Over time, his organization grew, significantly impacting the lives of countless citizens by providing vital resources and support to facilitate their reintegration into society. What started with 35 people has flourished into a community of about 8,000 residents. This diverse population includes 3,100 elders, 1,450 bedridden individuals, 1,560 mentally disabled individuals, 1,190 physically impaired individuals, and 200 visually impaired individuals.

Evanie Efrem & Liana Efrem
The Mekedonia Youth Organization was founded by two sisters Evanie Efrem and Liana Efrem after being deeply inspired by the impactful work of the Mekedonia Home in Ethiopia. This sanctuary provides shelter and essential care to the impoverished, sick, frail, and disabled. Homelessness is a global problem, especially in developing countries like Ethiopia. Due to limited resources, there aren’t enough shelters or other facilities to care for homeless people. We recognized the potential to mobilize youth in the United States and worldwide to further support Mekedonia's mission.
"Be part of our mission to end homelessness! Together, we can create a meaningful and lasting impact. Your involvement makes a difference!"
